We write to you today with heavy hearts and important news to share. STRIVE Prep - Kepner will be closing in June 2023.
STRIVE Prep - Kepner has been going through renewal this year with Denver Public Schools. We were recently notified that the District is recommending a non-renewal for the school based on several factors but specifically due to the low academic performance at Kepner over the past few years.
We view this recommendation as a reflection of our leadership as a network and not about the potential or capability of our incredible students or our community. STRIVE Prep asked for the opportunity to operate Kepner to better deliver for kids and families and despite our best efforts, we did not live up to our promises.
We know this may feel like a shock, and is rightfully upsetting and frustrating. School closures are painful and we hoped to have better news to share with you all. But we want to assure you that we are committed to finishing the year strong and supporting each and every one of you in finding the best school option for your student when the choice window opens on January 13th.
We invite you to join us for a family forum on Thursday, December 15th at 4:00 pm at Kepner so we can share more information and we can hear from you. We also know this week is extremely busy for many of you, and we will hold another opportunity to meet in January when we are back from break.

We are excited to announce Tricia Noyola as our new Chief Executive Officer, effective November 2, 2022!
Originally, as part of the merger with Rocky Mountain Prep announced in August, Tricia was going to take the lead as CEO beginning July 2023. But as we started working through the integration process this year, we realized that having her lead as CEO sooner rather than later would allow for better integration of our two networks.
Our students, staff, and community will be best served this year by having a clear vision and consistent leadership from Tricia. Families can expect things to remain the same for the remainder of the school year; teachers, schools, sports, and other programs and services are not impacted as a result of the CEO change for the current school year.
We are excited that Tricia is willing to take on this role earlier. Tricia knows from her own lived experience the transformative power of education for all students. Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, she was mentored by family, friends, and educators to reach her full potential. Thanks to her strong leadership, Rocky Mountain Prep is a great place for teachers to work and for students to learn. RMP schools have all been given a Green rating by the Colorado Department of Education and, due to its high performance, RMP recently received a $4.5 million grant from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
As we announced in August, by uniting with Rocky Mountain Prep, STRIVE Prep will gain four high-performing ECE to 5th-grade elementary schools, currently operated by Rocky Mountain Prep. This will be a great addition to STRIVE Prep schools which next year will include: five elementary schools, six middle schools, and two high schools in the Denver metro area.

Having Tricia lead both organizations going forward will allow us to realize the benefits of the merger more quickly.
Tricia is eager to better get to know you and our entire STRIVE Prep community. In the coming weeks, Tricia and the team will be scheduling school meetings for families. That information will be communicated to you once we have it so stay tuned.
We are confident you will soon see the benefits of a unified network. By bringing our two organizations together sooner, we will be able to more effectively deliver a high-performing early childhood to 12th-grade educational pathway for families.

STRIVE Prep - Kepner will be moving to a primarily remote learning model for four weeks of school beginning November 29 and continuing through January 7, 2022. As you may know, our school has been struggling with teacher and staffing shortages. As a result, we believe the best way we can provide a safe and productive learning environment is through a hybrid model where some students are in-person and our primary instruction for most students is online.
Schools across the country, including many Colorado schools, are facing staff shortages and having to cancel class or move to remote learning. During this period, STRIVE Prep will focus on providing high quality virtual instruction, hiring and training new teachers and staff, and working with current staff so students have a safe and productive learning environment when they return to a fully in-person setting on January 10.
It is important to us that families have a clear understanding of a predictable schedule, with enough time as possible to adapt to the changing circumstances. That’s why we’re making this decision today and planning for four weeks, rather than shifting decisions every few days.
We understand having your child at home during this remote learning period may create challenges in a number of ways. There will be an in person Learning Center available, which can support up to 75 students, on campus during the remote learning period. Your child’s advisor will be reaching out today to learn more about your interest in having your child on campus in these learning centers.

Dear STRIVE Prep- Kepner Families,
I hope you and your loved ones are well and healthy at this time. I am writing today with an update for Quarter 3. Over the winter break, the state moved to a “dial framework” to assess risk level by county. This is a public health tool that combines the various indicators we have been tracking previously. As of January 4, Denver was lowered to Level Orange on this framework which is considered High Risk, but is two levels lower than the highest risk.
As a result of this new level, Denver Public Schools announced a plan for middle schools to return in a hybrid model by February 1. STRIVE Prep will be following the district framework, as we will continue to follow the guidance issued by our local health officials.
Please read the information below regarding important updates and fill out the short survey to let us know if your child will be returning to in-person learning (hybrid) or will be remaining remote at home so that we can best plan moving forward.
Center Programs
Hybrid Model
On the days that students are not in the school building, they continue with remote learning from home.
Remote Learning Model
For students opting to remain in 100% online, remote learning, the model will look very similar to what it currently looks like. Schedules would stay the same, and students will continue to have the same teachers for their subjects. Teachers will be giving live, real-time (synchronous) lessons to students, and providing the same opportunities for remote learners to make up the work at a different time (asynchronously) for students who need flexibility.
COVID Testing for Students
We are excited to share that DPS is now offering free COVID-19 testing for students to support a safe return to school. Our full community of students and staff will now have the opportunity to take an initial COVID-19 test before coming back to school as well as ongoing screening tests every other week.
Registering for COVID testing can be completed through this link. The tests are free, fast, and reliable. You can see an updated list of testing sites here including sites at many school sites, including STRIVE Prep - Montbello. These tests are completed by nose or mouth swab and results are returned within 36-72 hours.
Other important information to consider when deciding to return to in-person learning:
Please note that though we think this is the most likely version of what school will look like in Quarter 3, things may change depending on health metrics. You can always choose to move to remote learning at any time for the remainder of the quarter. If you choose in-person learning, we look forward to seeing your student every day of in-person learning, unless your student has an excused absence. Families that choose to be remote are expected to remain remote for the remainder of the quarter due to the challenges of planning for additional and unexpected students in the building during this time.
Please let us know if your student is planning on returning to school in person February 8 or if they plan on remaining in remote learning HERE by Tues, January 19. Please fill out 1 survey per student.
We will continue to monitor local health data to ensure this return is safe for all students, families, and staff. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.
