Greetings STRIVE Prep-Sunnyside Families,
I hope you and your loved ones are well during these challenging times. I am writing today with an update for Quarter 3. Over the winter break, the state moved to a “dial framework” to assess risk level by county. This is a public health tool that combines the various indicators we have been tracking previously. As of January 4, Denver was lowered to Level Orange on this framework which is considered High Risk, but is two levels lower than the highest risk.
As a result of this new level, Denver Public Schools announced a plan for middle schools to return in a hybrid model by February 1. STRIVE Prep will be following the district framework, as we will continue to follow the guidance issued by our local health officials.
Please read the information below regarding important updates and fill out the short survey to let us know if your child will be returning to in-person learning (hybrid) or will be remaining remote at home so that we can best plan moving forward.
Hybrid Model
- Beginning February 1, our school will offer in-person support for students who select it
- Students who request in-person will attend in-person two days a week
- Daily schedules will remain the same
- Teaching will still be online, and in-person support will look like online instruction in socially distanced classrooms. This allows for students to be able to have access to all of their courses and teachers.
- Class size will be limited to 17 students
- In person students will participate in 2 additional activities each week
On the 3 days per week students are not on campus, they will continue remote learning in the same way they have during quarters 1 and 2.
Remote Learning Model
For students opting to remain in 100% online, remote learning, the model will look very similar to what it currently looks like. Schedules would stay the same, and students will continue to have the same teachers for their subjects. Teachers will be giving live, real-time (synchronous) lessons to students, and providing the same opportunities for remote learners to make up the work at a different time (asynchronously) for students who need flexibility.
COVID Testing for Students
We are excited to share that DPS is now offering free COVID-19 testing for students to support a safe return to school. Our full community of students and staff will now have the opportunity to take an initial COVID-19 test before coming back to school as well as ongoing screening tests every other week.
Registering for COVID testing can be completed through this link. The tests are free, fast, and reliable. You can see an updated list of testing sites here including sites at many school sites. These tests are completed by nose or mouth swab and results are returned within 36-72 hours.
Other important information to consider when deciding to return to in-person learning:
- There will be strict safety procedures put in place for students and staff in buildings once we re-open. These will include mandatory mask-wearing and distancing within classrooms
- Full food service (breakfast and lunch) will be offered for all students who choose to attend school in-person
- As of now, DPS is not planning to provide transportation for secondary schools.
- We will provide social-emotional well-being check-ins and other support for students in both scenarios.
- Students who receive support for specialized learning needs (IEP, 504, ELL) will have additional support opportunities in-person.
- Students will remain on the same schedule and receive the same core instruction in person and remote.
Please note that though we think this is the most likely version of what school will look like in Quarter 3, things may change depending on health metrics. You can always choose to move to remote learning at any time. Families that choose to be remote are expected to remain remote for the remainder of the quarter due to the challenges of planning for additional and unexpected students in the building during this time.
Please let us know if your student is planning on returning to school in person February 1 or if they plan on remaining in remote learning HERE by Tuesday, January 19. Please fill out 1 survey per student.

Espero que usted y sus seres queridos estén bien durante estos tiempos difíciles. Le escribo hoy con una actualización para el tercer trimestre. Durante las vacaciones de invierno, el estado pasó a un “dial framework” para evaluar el nivel de riesgo por condado. Esta es una herramienta de salud pública que combina los diversos indicadores que hemos estado rastreando anteriormente. A partir del 4 de Enero, Denver se redujo al nivel naranja en este marco que se considera de alto riesgo, pero es dos niveles más bajo que el riesgo más alto.
Como resultado de este nuevo nivel, las Escuelas Públicas de Denver anunciaron un plan para que las escuelas intermedias regresen en un modelo híbrido antes del 1 de Febrero. STRIVE Prep seguirá el marco del distrito, ya que continuaremos siguiendo la guía emitida por nuestros funcionarios de salud locales. .

Modelo híbrido

Los 3 días por semana que los estudiantes no estén en la escuela, continuarán con el aprendizaje remoto de la misma manera que lo han hecho durante los trimestres 1 y 2.
Modelo de aprendizaje remoto

Los horarios seguirían siendo los mismos y los estudiantes seguirían teniendo los mismos profesores para sus materias. Los maestros darán lecciones en vivo y en tiempo real (sincrónicas) a los estudiantes y brindarán las mismas oportunidades para que los estudiantes remotos recuperen el trabajo en un momento diferente (asincrónicamente) para los estudiantes que necesitan flexibilidad.
Pruebas COVID para estudiantes
Nos complace compartir que DPS ahora ofrece pruebas COVID-19 gratuitas para que los estudiantes apoyen un regreso seguro a la escuela. Nuestra comunidad completa de estudiantes y personal ahora tendrá la oportunidad de tomar una prueba COVID-19 inicial antes de regresar a la escuela, así como pruebas de detección en curso cada dos semanas.

Puede ver una lista actualizada de los sitios de prueba here , incluidos los sitios en muchas escuelas. - Por el momento, DPS no planea proporcionar transporte para las escuelas secundarias.

Háganos saber si su estudiante está planeando regresar a la escuela en persona para el 1 de Febrero o si planea permanecer en el aprendizaje remoto HERE antes del Martes 19 de Enero. Complete una(1) encuesta por estudiante.
