Rocky Mountain Prep and STRIVE Prep unite to create ECE-12 pathway for families

As the board chairs of Rocky Mountain Prep and STRIVE Prep, we are eager to share an exciting and important organizational update that will have a longstanding and positive impact on our students, families, staff and communities.

At our public board meeting this week, our boards voted to unite organizations and join together into a single, unified public charter school system beginning July 1, 2023. Tricia Noyola, Rocky Mountain Prep’s current CEO, will serve as the CEO of the united early childhood (ECE) through 12th-grade public network of schools, which will retain the STRIVE Prep name.

Joining our two organizations will provide significant benefits. We will be able to create high-performing early childhood to 12th-grade educational pathways for families by joining RMP’s four ECE through 5th-grade schools with the STRIVE Prep network of one elementary and nine secondary schools. In addition, we will enhance our ability to deliver strong academic, social/emotional and college and career outcomes for all students, including exceptional results for special education and multilingual students. Finally, a single network will allow us to build a stronger coalition of families who can advocate for quality and equity in public education.

We have the utmost confidence that Tricia is exactly the right leader for our future organization. The STRIVE Prep CEO selection committee, comprised of parents, staff, and board members, was deeply impressed by her inspiring vision of excellence, her high academic expectations, her track record of success, and the culture of joy she brings to schools.

Tricia knows from her own lived experience the transformative power of education for all students. Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, she was mentored by family, friends, and educators to reach her full potential. Prior to becoming CEO of Rocky Mountain Prep, Tricia had a distinguished career as teacher, principal, and executive director with nationally-recognized IDEA Public Schools in Texas. During her time at IDEA Austin, she led the region to become one of the highest-performing groups of public schools within the Austin area. This work is personal for Tricia. As the mother of four children, all of whom have attended RMP schools, she approaches decisions with the mindset of an educator and parent. Students, teachers, staff and families can expect things to remain the same over the next year. Both networks will continue to operate independently during the entire duration of the 2022-23 school year. RMP and STRIVE Prep schools will retain their current names, principals and staff.

For RMP, Tricia will remain CEO during this time. For STRIVE Prep, after 16 years, founder and CEO Chris Gibbons will be moving on and Jessica Johnson, formerly General Counsel, has been named by the STRIVE Prep board as the sole finalist to serve as STRIVE Prep’s interim CEO for the 2022-23 school year. Jessica has been with STRIVE Prep for five years, and will ensure STRIVE Prep continues to meet its standard for excellence in the coming school year. Jessica and Tricia will begin working together immediately to build the foundation for Tricia’s leadership in academic strategy and school support. The STRIVE Prep board will formally vote on Jessica’s appointment to the interim CEO position at the August 17 board meeting.

See here for answers to some questions you may have about this announcement. In the fall, we will begin hosting a series of town hall forums. These forums will provide students, families, and staff the opportunity to meet Tricia, hear about her vision, share your ideas, and ask any questions you may have about this merger.

If you have additional questions, please reach out to connect@rockymountainprep.org at RMP and connect@striveprep.org at STRIVE Prep.

In the meantime, our respective organizations will each be focused on having a great start to the school year.
