Schools reopen Friday, support available

October 05, 2023
By Sally Winter

Dear Rocky Mountain Prep Southwest, Westwood, and SMART communities,

We hope this message finds you all well and safe. We are writing to let you know that all three campuses will open on Friday, October 6.

The safety and well-being of students is our top priority at Rocky Mountain Prep, and we will have on-site support for our students and families. RMP Southwest, Westwood, and SMART will all have two mental health providers onsite. If you would like your child to speak with someone at school please directly communicate with school staff. If needed, students will have access to one-on-one support with our staff.

We know there is a lot of discussion and conversation happening in our community about yesterday's events and the impact of gun violence on our students. Our team will approach this discussion in age-appropriate ways and with professional support tomorrow. Because this is an ongoing police investigation, there is not a lot of information we can share about the incident.

Violence is hard for us all to understand. Returning to school is important because this is where we can continue to learn, grow, and find a sense of normalcy, even during challenging times. As you continually support your child at home, do things you enjoy, stick to your normal routine, and be with friends and family in these times.

We invite you to join us for Community Cafecitos so we can hear from you and offer support:

  • RMP Westwood and RMP SMART joint Community Cafecito: Tuesday, October 10, 8:30 am
  • RMP Southwest Community Cafecito: Tuesday, October 10, 8:45 am

Please check in with your child and see how they are doing.  These are some resources that may be helpful:

  • Rocky Mountain Crisis Partnership 1-844-493-8255
  • Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD) 303-504-6500
  • Second Wind Fund 720-962-0706
  • Safe2Tell Colorado (report anonymously) 1-877-542-7233
  • Colorado Crisis Services 1-844-493-8255, Text “TALK” to 38255
  • Tips for Survivors of a Disaster or Other Traumatic Event (ENG) (ESP)

In the meantime, we are here for you and your child, and we are eager to welcome our community back tomorrow morning.

Sincerely,

Bridget Tiebout

  • Mental Health Center of Denver (MHCD) 303-504-6500  (Salud mental)
  • Colorado Crisis Services 1-844-493-8255, Text “TALK” to 38255 (Servicios para crisis)

Atentamente,

Bridget Tiebout
