Dear STRIVE Prep Families,
As you know, we have been closely monitoring the spread of the COVID-19 Virus. We know this entire situation has created a heightened level of anxiety, and we are grateful to all of you for your patience as we work through this unprecedented issue.
This evening, Superintendent Susana Cordova consulted with local health departments, state and city government, and other local school districts. Based on those conversations and expert guidance for prevention, the Denver Public School District has decided to close school for students beginning Monday, March 16 and reopen after spring break on Monday, April 6. Following the recommendation of DPS, STRIVE Prep will be considering this an extended spring break.
In order to support our students to have the tools they will need to access optional materials for learning during this closure, we are working hard to provide each middle and high school student with a laptop and charger. Please fill out this short survey (2 minutes) to help us assess your internet needs.
Though school is not in session, all school buildings will be open on March 16 and 17, and will be closed beginning March 18. If your student is not at school on Friday, March 13, and does not have a laptop and charger or the medications they need, we will have drop-in times on Monday and Tuesday for you to pick up your student’s technology and medications between 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
As the district shared, this is an extended spring break. And, as a parent, I understand the importance of having meaningful activities for students during a long break from school. As a result, STRIVE Prep will be sharing resources for your students to use as extended learning opportunities, if interested and able. These resources are not required assignments, but opportunities for students to keep their brain sharp during the break.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this unique time. The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented event for our community and decisions have moved very quickly. STRIVE Prep is committed to the health and well-being of your students, our top priority. As such, expect weekly check ins from your student’s advisors and if your student receives mental health supports, weekly check ins from them as well.
We are aware that this plan brings up many questions about access to additional resources for students during this extended break. We expect information from DPS regarding regional meal service and other available services tomorrow. Please have patience as we work through various scenarios to support students with the services, and expect an update soon. Como ya saben, hemos estado supervisando la propagación del virus COVID-19. Sabemos que esta situación ha creado un mayor nivel de ansiedad y estamos agradecidos por su paciencia mientras trabajamos en esta situación sin precedentes.
Esta tarde, la Superintendente Susana Cordova consultó con los departamentos de salud locales, el gobierno estatal y municipal y otros distritos escolares locales. Sobre la base de esas conversaciones y la orientación de expertos para la prevención, el Distrito de Escuelas Públicas de Denver decidió cerrar la escuela para los estudiantes a partir del lunes 16 de marzo y volver a abrir después de las vacaciones de primavera el lunes 6 de abril. Y, como padre, entiendo la importancia de tener actividades significativas para los estudiantes durante un largo descanso de la escuela. Como resultado, STRIVE Prep compartirá recursos para que sus estudiantes los utilicen como oportunidades de aprendizaje extendidas, si están interesados y pueden hacerlo. Estos recursos no son tareas obligatorias, sino oportunidades para que los estudiantes mantengan la agudeza mental durante el descanso.
