Remote learning planned through Oct. 16

In the interest of health and safety, given the current increased spread of COVID-19 in our community, all STRIVE Prep schools will remain in remote learning through the end of the first quarter, October 16.

During the last few weeks, there has been some fast-shifting guidance and messaging from STRIVE Prep, Denver Public Schools, and throughout our country. We believe that making a decision now that the academic program will be delivered remotely for the first quarter allows our teachers to plan the best possible program for your children, and allows you to plan thoughtfully without uncertainty for what is to come.

We learned a lot during remote learning in the spring and have used the summer time to plan for a stronger remote learning model for your children this fall.

Here are the promises we intend to keep throughout the remote learning model:

• Your child will start the school year prepared with the materials they need to learn remotely for the entire quarter. Each of our campuses will be distributing Chromebooks and necessary academic supplies (books for ELA, lab materials for science, etc.) the week before learning begins (August 17-21). If you need internet access, we will provide it.
• Your child will have clear expectations for rigorous work. Our schools will run 3-5 hours of live, virtual instruction via video chat every day. Those classes will be structured similarly to in-person instruction, and students will have rigorous work to complete. These classes will also be recorded, so students can engage with them on a flexible schedule if your family requires it.
• Your child will get all of the support we can provide. Even when students cannot make it to live classes, teachers will be available during “office hours” to support them. And we will provide mental health services to all students who need them.
• Your child will receive specific supports related to their IEP, 504 Plan, or Emergent Bilingual services.  We will provide comprehensive services in all of these areas, from your Special Education teachers and English Language Development teachers at your child’s school.
• Your child will experience the joy that comes with being a STRIVE Prep student. Whole-school gatherings and celebrations will be a feature of your student’s experience with school (remotely, of course). Students will be celebrated for their achievements and connected to each other and their schools in new ways that are only possible when learning remotely.
• As parents, you will always have a direct line to the school. We will be consistently responsive to parent needs and inquiries even if we are not at buildings in-person. If you call the school, you will get a call back within 24 hours 100% of the time.

Key dates:

• August 8: Last day for online registration. All students must be registered.
• August 17-20: Pick up computers and other learning materials. You will receive a call from your school next week with more details. Please also check your school's Facebook page for the most recent updates. 
• August 24: Remote learning begins

Learning remotely for the first quarter of the 20-21 school year aligns with our core beliefs, and aligns with the feedback we’ve received from the majority of our families and teachers. The health and safety of our staff, students and families is our priority and we want to minimize their risk and further prevent the spread of COVID. 

In our family survey, many of you mentioned that if the primary learning environment was remote, some individual or small group in-person opportunities might be important for your child, either to support their academic learning, mental health, or other needs. We will be monitoring health and safety guidance closely to see if these types of in-person opportunities might be possible, and we will do everything we can to provide them if so.  

STRIVE Prep will reassess whether to continue the remote learning environment or to consider some in-person learning with a different learning approach for the second quarter no later than October 1. If and when in-person learning resumes later in the year, you will always have the option of selecting a remote learning option for your child, and you will have the flexibility to select that option at any time. 

We will continue to advocate on your behalf, and ensure the safest procedures if and when we return to in-person learning. Thank you for  your continued partnership and support during these times.

En el interés de la salud y la seguridad, dada la creciente expansión actual de COVID-19 en nuestra comunidad, todas las escuelas de STRIVE Prep permanecerán en el aprendizaje remoto hasta el final del primer trimestre, el 16 de octubre.

Durante las últimas semanas, ha habido mensajes y consejos cambiantes de STRIVE Prep, las Escuelas Públicas de Denver y en todo nuestro país. Creemos que tomar la decisión ahora de que el programa académico será en forma remota durante el primer trimestre permite a nuestros maestros planificar el mejor programa posible para sus hijos y le permite planificar cuidadosamente sin incertidumbre de lo que está por venir.  

Aprendimos mucho durante nuestro aprendizaje remoto en la primavera y hemos usado el verano para planificar un modelo de aprendizaje remoto más fuerte para sus hijos este otoño.  

Estas son las promesas que vamos a mantener en todo el modelo de aprendizaje remoto: 

• Su hijo comenzará el año escolar preparado con los materiales que necesita para aprender de forma remota durante todo el trimestre. Cada uno de nuestros campus distribuirá Chromebooks y los materiales académicos necesarios (libros para ELA, materiales de laboratorio para ciencias, etc.) la semana antes de que comience el aprendizaje (17-21 de agosto). Si necesita acceso a internet, se lo proporcionaremos.
• Su hijo tendrá expectativas claras para un trabajo riguroso. Nuestras escuelas ofrecerán de 3 a 5 horas de instrucción virtual en vivo por video chat todos los días. Esas clases se estructurarán de manera similar a la instrucción en persona, y los estudiantes deberán completar un trabajo riguroso. Estas clases también se grabarán, para que los estudiantes puedan participar con ellos en un horario flexible si su familia lo requiere.
• Su hijo recibirá todo el apoyo que podamos brindarle. Incluso cuando los estudiantes no puedan asistir a clases en vivo, los maestros estarán disponibles durante las “horas de oficina” para apoyarlos. Y brindaremos servicios de salud mental a todos los estudiantes que los necesiten.
• Su hijo recibirá apoyos específicos relacionados con su IEP, Plan 504 o servicios para bilingües emergentes. Brindaremos servicios integrales en todas estas áreas, incluyendo sus maestros de Educación Especial y maestros de Desarrollo del Idioma Inglés en la escuela de su hijo.
• Su hijo experimentará la alegría de ser un estudiante de STRIVE Prep. Las reuniones y celebraciones de toda la escuela serán una característica de la experiencia de su estudiante con la escuela (remotamente, por supuesto). Los estudiantes serán celebrados por sus logros y conectados entre sí y con sus escuelas de nuevas maneras que solo son posibles cuando se aprende de forma remota.
• Como padres, siempre tendrán una línea directa a la escuela. Responderemos constantemente a las necesidades y consultas de los padres, incluso si no estamos en los edificios en persona. Si llama a la escuela, recibirá una llamada dentro de las 24 horas el 100% del tiempo.

Fechas importantes: 

• 8 de agosto: Último día de inscripción en línea. Todos los estudiantes necesitan registrarse. 
• 17-20 de agosto: Recoger computadoras y materiales de aprendizaje. Recibirá una llamada de su escuela la semana que viene con más detalles sobre el proceso. También revise las páginas de Facebook de su escuela para las actualizaciones más recientes. 
• 24 de agosto: El aprendizaje remoto empieza. 

El aprendizaje remoto durante el primer trimestre de clases se alinea con nuestros principios centrales y con los comentarios que recibimos de la mayoría de nuestras familias y maestros. La salud y seguridad de nuestro personal, estudiantes y familias es nuestra prioridad y queremos minimizar el riesgo de contagio de COVID y evitar que siga propagándose. 

En nuestra encuesta a las familias, muchos de ustedes mencionaron que si el medio principal de aprendizaje era remoto, sería importante tener algunas oportunidades de tener sesiones individuales o en grupos pequeños en persona, ya sea para apoyar su aprendizaje académico, su salud mental u otras necesidades. Estaremos monitoreando las recomendaciones de salud y seguridad de cerca para ver si estas oportunidades de estar en persona podrían ser posibles, y haremos todo lo posible para ofrecerlas. 

STRIVE Prep volverá a evaluar si se continúa el aprendizaje remoto o considerará algo de aprendizaje en persona con un enfoque diferente para el segundo trimestre a más tardar el 1 de octubre. Si el aprendizaje en persona se reactiva más adelante en el año, ustedes siempre tendrán la opción de seleccionar la opción de aprendizaje remoto para sus hijos, y tendrán la flexibilidad de seleccionar esa opción en cualquier momento.
